The Mickey Family founded the pet industry in Truckee, California in 1984, as a full service pet store, nearly 30 years ago.
Then the California Vocational Rehabilitation teamed up with Rosemary Mickey to teach grooming to their members. Mickey's became a training center. Mickey's School of Grooming, then decided to obtain its non-profit 501 (C ) (3) status in 2010 as an educator in pet grooming from the IRS . Click this Link to Check IRS for Status.
With Rosemary Mickey's longevity and knowledge in the pet grooming industry, Mickey’s School of Grooming became the only non profit 501 (C) (3) pet grooming school in Northern Nevada and California.
Now Mickey's works with other non profits, rescue groups and our Volunteers groom their pets for free. These working relationship allows for Mickey's to have volunteers groom actual dogs and cats. This volunteerism has increased the adoption rate for these rescue groups.
The Training Mickey's School of Grooming teaches is gentle and caring grooming techniques and allows volunteers to gain sustainability and quality in the grooming profession. One reason Mickey's School of Grooming is more distinctive than other training programs, is its focus on providing volunteers training with 600 hours of hands-on experience aligned with industry American Kennel Club standards of grooming. This approach is best seen though Mickey's and Groomers to You work-based learning program, which requires volunteers to spend time in real work environments before they complete training.
The work-based learning program links 22 work study lessons with exams and career training to practical, on-the-job activities. Finally, upon completion of the work-based learning program, the volunteer/employee graduates to become an expert in the world of professional pet grooming with employment.
Mickey's has made some changes in the volunteer enrollment and the volunteer training program because everyone is hired when you finish your basic training. The Basic training does cost and you must commit to a 2 year employment agreement.
First, each volunteer does have a period of a week to see if the grooming career is for you. This career is not for everyone.
This is how it works. Once satisfied you complete the volunteer/ employment phase, which is about 3 months long. You volunteer grooming rescue animals at Mickey's training centers. and you are employed by Groomers to you Inc., an employee owned company. At the time of employment, you must sign a two year employment agreement for the training, The cost of training is $6,000.00.
There are two reasons for this: 1) The cost of training is financed over the two years of your employment and a monthly payment is deducted from you earnings when you are working in a store, this is where you learn your finishing phase.of grooming. 2) this also provides you with a work history of 2 years employment in the field of grooming.
If you should quit before the two years is up the balance of the training fees are immediately due.
Once you have completed the volunteer /employee training program you are placed in a charity store that Mickey's owns by Groomers to You. Again this is where you learn your finishing of faces, and your main skill set by a trained groomer with at least 10 years experience in the field. It is important that Mickey's Charity Stores maintains the high standards of grooming for its donor's pets.
Mickey's Goals are:
1) To opening 4 stores just this year and plans to open more after next year. 2) Mickey's wants to teach groomers our Non-Profit culture of gentle and caring grooming. 3) This gives you the necessary work experience after two years (which is required to work in this career). 4) During those 2 years, we help you obtain your certification by the National Dog Groomers Association of America. This Association is the only one that certifies all dog groomers for the American Kennel Club. This certification is the only one that matters in the dog grooming field.
Please call for more details or use the Training Employment Inquiry and to start your volunteerism and career to be a dog grooming @ 530 550 1170 or 775 219 0789.
